My name is Nathan James. Josiah James is my fourth great grandfather (my father > Ralph Edgar James > Noah Daniel James > Josiah James > Jacob James > Josiah James). I've been researching the James line for 12 years now almost exclusively on-line. Although I hope to make trips soon to Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Scioto County, Ohio.
After communicating with other James family researchers for some years via email and ancestry.com, we (Cat Gray and I) decided to create a forum so all of the researchers could know one another and share research in one consolidated and preserved space. Perhaps even getting to know each other in the process.
Please feel free to introduce yourselves, discuss what parts of the family you're currently researching, or ask questions.
For instance, I've always wondered what exactly we know about Josiah James's wife Mary. Is her last name McCann or McPherson? Does anyone have documentation on her?

Hi! My name is Cathy Gray. I am also a descendant of Josiah James. My line is Connie James> Wilard James> Noah James> Josiah James> Jacob James> Josiah James. That makes Nathan my first cousin one time removed. There are a lot of descendants of Josiah James and many interesting questions to investigate. I am looking forward to some great discussions and sharing of information.

Welcome Wanda! I don't have a lot of information about Jonathan James. Do you know who Sarah's mom was? Or who Jonathon's parents were?

Hello, Bill! Our James line doesn't touch New York, unfortunately. Our Ohio James's left the state decades before your Ohioan was born. We can go back to Virginia about the time your Thomas was in CT or RI. I don't believe we've found proof of our family being up that way, so I feel it's unlikely we share relatives. Did you ever have family in southern Ohio, or in Virginia?

Hi all. I'm Marty Draper, currently of Virginia and formerly of Council Bluffs, IA (quite a few years ago). I believe I am descended from Josiah James through Daniel McPherson James (1801-1874) > Daniel Leonard James (1840-1905) > Jesse Lewis James (1876-1968). Reading your posts, I'm not so sure of the connection to Josiah. There seems to be debate about the McPherson name. I believe I came to the name McPherson from my grandmother's family bible (Mable Gladys James Draper). That was the end of what she had documented. I found Josiah through other searches. Daniel is not documented in the posted Josiah James history, but somewhere I found a link.
I'm in Virginia and willing to chase down some links here if someone can give me some hints where to go. I've been planning to go to the State Historical Society in Richmond, but haven't had the chance to go there yet.
I think I've conversed with Cat on other boards before.
Marty

Hi Marty! This forum never took off the way we wanted, but I am in contact with most of the James researchers. If I could get an email from you, I'd be happy to keep you in the loop.
Nate
